Why You Should Print Your Wedding Photographs:

The Difference Between Seeing Your Memories and Actually Feeling Them

Why Your Wedding Photographs Should Be More Than Digital Files

When you think about your wedding photographs, you probably think about seeing them on your phone, sharing them with family and friends, or posting your favorites on social media. And honestly, I love that we can do all of those things. But I feel like there is an actual disconnect when our memories only live digitally. When you can actually touch a photograph, there is something different that happens. You can see it and feel something digitally, but there is something psychologically different about being able to hold a memory in your hands.

It’s kind of like the difference between having a piece of paper from the state that says you’re married and wearing your wedding ring. The legislation says you’re married, but the ring feels real. I think photographs can be the same way. A digital file tells you that the memory exists, but a printed photograph gives you something you can actually hold onto.

Your Photographs Can Take You Right Back to the Moment

I absolutely believe photographs can bring you back to a moment. When I open every single one of my wedding albums or collections, I can relive the exact moments. I can remember the memories and darn near hear their voice and the music, remember the temperature on my skin, and feel the rush of capturing those moments all over again.

That is one of the things I love most about photography. A photograph doesn’t just show you what happened. Sometimes it can bring back what it felt like when it happened. Years from now, you may not remember every little detail of your wedding day, but you see one photograph and suddenly you’re right back there.

Your Computer Isn't a Family Heirloom

I wish couples could see how often I hear this. “I never printed my photographs and I’m hoping you have a backup copy. My computer was wiped out and I don’t have any of my images.” Or I’ll bump into a couple years later and ask, “So, did you ever print any of your photographs?” and more often than I’d like, they tell me no.

Sometimes it has been over three years since they were married.

And that honestly breaks my heart. What is the point of the investment into your memories if they just sit in a digital folder on your computer or somewhere on social media? Digital images are great for sharing when you’re “on the road,” but what about all the time that you are at home? Your wedding photographs should be something you get to live with, not something you have to remember to go looking for.

Let Your Photographs Become Part of Your Home

I feel like couples cherish a moment even more when it was such a powerful emotion that they chose to print it and frame it loud and proud on their wall.

It’s like buying a Mona Lisa painting and then keeping it in your closet so no one sees it. Or hunting a 12-point buck and leaving it in the shed. Or buying a stunning dress and never putting it on. It’s even like buying your wedding cake and never getting to cut it and eat it.

Why did you buy it in the first place?

Your photographs deserve to be seen. They deserve to become part of your home and part of your everyday life.

The One Photograph I Think Every Couple Should Have

First of all, since I am a mother, I feel like printing one photograph that is just the bride and groom is important. This is the start of your new immediate family. When family and friends come over, that is what they will see.

And when you get frustrated or life gets hard, that photograph can remind you why you are where you are and why you are with the person you love. When you choose to have children, they will get to see that beautiful photograph of Mom and Dad and remember that they are loved by two people who love them just as much.

This moment doesn’t have to be quiet or loud, posed or candid. It just has to be a moment between the two of you.

What If You Choose Not to Print Your Photographs?

Honestly, that is your choice. I’m not going to tell you that you have to print your photographs.

But a tiny piece of me knows that one day, down the road, you may print off a single image and suddenly get hit by that metaphorical truck of realizing that you spent years not seeing your own wedding photographs hanging on your walls.

Maybe you’ll wonder why you waited so long.

And maybe that is the part I don’t want you to miss. Not the decorating. Not having something pretty on your wall. The actual experience of getting to see and remember that moment every single day.

Give Yourself a Reminder of Why You Chose Each Other

I want couples to remember that they love one another through the good and bad, through the easy times and the hard times. To remember that they started something together that has meaning and purpose and that they will always be loved and they will always have love.

A photograph can become that little reminder.

A gift to each other is the marriage to one another. Your wedding photographs are simply a way of remembering the beginning of that gift.

Quick answer: Why Print Your Wedding Photographs

Tips Why Printing Your Wedding Photographs Isn't Even a Question!

  • A printed photograph gives you something tangible that you can actually hold and experience.
  • Your photographs can bring back the emotions and memories of a moment, not just what it looked like.
  • Digital files can be lost, forgotten, or trapped on a computer that eventually stops working.
  • A photograph on your wall becomes part of your everyday life instead of sitting unseen in a digital folder.
  • One photograph of just the two of you can become a reminder of where your family began.
  • Your children and future family can one day see the people and love that came before them.
  • You invested in your memories. Give those memories a place to live.

Final Thoughts

Your Wedding Photographs Deserve to Be Seen

Your wedding photographs are more than files you receive after your wedding day. They are pieces of your story. They are the moments that can take you back to the way you felt, the people who were there, and the beginning of the life you chose together.

So yes, share them online. Send them to your family. Keep your digital copies backed up. But don't forget to print them, too.

Put one on your wall. Put one in an album. Let your photographs become part of your home and part of your family's story. Because one day, those photographs may mean even more to you than they do right now.
